What will unblock blocked drains, clean corrosion from car battery terminals, remove rust spots from chrome bumpers, clean vehicle engines, loosen a rusted bolt, remove grease stains from clothes, remove blood from road surfaces after a traffic accident and de-ice the car windscreen for you because it contains anti-freeze? |

I was a fit and healthy and slim woman in my early thirties. I had a job I loved, lots of friends and worked out four times a week. That all changed after I lifted a client who was 20+ stone with a very petite colleague. I instantly felt a sharp pain and could not straighten up. After a very sleepless night I saw my GP who said I had probably pulled a muscle. He signed me off work but I was getting pain in my left leg and a funny numb feeling but he said that was normal. It did not feel like normal to me. He gave me a cocktail of drugs, very strong pain killers, muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatories. This continued for a few months and I was getting nowhere so I signed myself off and returned to work thinking I could work it off. I lasted two hours and got hell from my GP. So he finally agreed to send me to hospital to see a consultant. This took nine months but I was now getting the tests I should have had in the beginning. I feel that all doctors class back pain as the same, you know? But everyone is different and I certainly was. I got an MRI scan, x-rays and a lot of other tests. Meantime, I was put on amitriptaline, a strong anti-depressant and hypnotic drug. It cured my sleep deprivation but made me useless. I could not think straight so after a few months I binned them. I finally was called back with all the test results and they said I had three damaged and compressed discs and nerve damage and rheumatoid arthritis. The nerve damage and muscle wastage was irreversible. Had I gotten prompt treatment I may have had less problems. So now I had a name to my issues, as I called them. I was referred to the pain clinic as apparently they were really good. The first arrogant doctor I saw said I had to accept my problems and that I was finished working, I was on the scrap heap. I walked out before I got arrested for doing something bad. The next doctor was great. She tried her best. I got accupuncture, a tens machine, relaxation tapes, a walking stick (I was always falling with the numb leg and gotten a lot of injuries), a back brace and drug therapies. Nothing worked. I was in despair and was having suicidal thoughts. They suggested surgery but I could be left paralysed so I said I was bad enough. And the thought of steel rods in my spine was terrifying. Next, she suggested putting electrical implants in my back which sends signals to the nerves and deadens the pain. But I would have to lie for two weeks in bed and not move before the implants could be connected. It all sounded horrific! Before I completely gave up she suggested epidural injections. Not knowing anything about this, I agreed and was not told what to expect. If only I had. I was taken to theatre and told to lie with my legs pulled up to my chest, not easy when you are in so much pain. Then the worst part. She injected between the discs with a very large needle. I screamed in pain. All she said was, ‘oh yes, it can be a bit uncomfortable’. A bit! I could hardly stand it and pleaded with her to stop. I could not stop crying, but there was to be no sympathy she kept going. Then I had to lie flat and not move for an hour. I lay and broke my heart. Had I known I would never have put myself through that. No one tells you anything, no one explains. In my desperate state I never asked for details. Why do doctors not tell you? I endured another two injections till I gave up and never went back. It was too much for me. I felt like just another number. There was no compassion, no sympathy, no details, nothing. If only you were treated as an individual and with some understanding, not just a person who has a bad back. I found my own way of coping. By taking between 5-10 dihydrocodeine a day with wine I could dull the pain a bit. Also my neighbour would give me a few morphine patches on my really bad days. I gave up on the medical profession. I would only take pain killers and nothing else, despite being offered many new drugs and therapies. I wanted to be left alone. There was no cure! I had to accept that. I tried alternative treatments. Billy (my husband) attended a holistic healer and therapist and he treated me for nothing. I think he found me a challenge! He tried everything but nothing worked. I gave up there too. Then Billy was given the phone number for a kinesiologist. I refused to go, thinking, here we go again! He phoned up and made the appointment and took me there. I have never honestly looked back. Kinesiology can change your life - I’m damn sure it can. It saved mine. Within a few minutes my sciatic pain lessened. After a few sessions my back pain improved. It took time to have a complete improvement but the immediate difference was amazing. I could walk without pain. I could sleep without tossing and turning. I could do things that I found difficult before he gave me back my life. I will always have the numb patches on my legs and the skin discolouration that is permanent. But that does not matter. I have no pain. That is what is important. My family and friends could not believe the difference in me. They had bother keeping up with me now where before I was the wee invalid. This therapy should be shouted from the rooftops, there should be banners across the street (oops sorry, I’m getting carried away). I had never heard of kinesiology and I researched thoroughly on the internet for help in easing my back pain, trying to find any cures or therapies. It should be better advertised and doctors should be recommending it. They should not just be throwing a prescription at you, they should listen and be more understanding. |

Having recently finished a diploma course in kinesiology, I was still very nervous of using it and didn't have to the confidence to put the various procedures into practice. However, having spent seven days doing the John Logue Advanced Course I have already implemented it into my practice and have the confidence to use it. The course itself was stimulating, there is ample opportunity to workshop what you have learnt and the manuals are excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this course to other practitioners (and have already!) if they want to brush up their existing skills. Jackie Reader, Kent |
